The seaside town of Petten is located along 5.5 kilometers of beach and the Hondsbossche Seawall. Petten is a small intimate town with only 1500 residents. The town is perched on the border of the dune area The Pettemer Dunes and is part of the municipality of Schagen. A stay here is wonderfully quiet and calm be it in the winter or summer.
The town is built around the special church floor and churchyard of the former Reformed church, which was lost in the Second World War. It's definitely worth seeing! The town of Petten thrives on tourism and flower bulb cultivation. The tulips in the limestone and sand soils between the dunes and the North-Hollands polder bloom in the spring. Its a gorgeous sight! At the recreation and bungalow park De Watersnip you can rent a bicycle for cycling along the beautiful bulb fields surrounding Petten. Its a colorful spring spectacle.
The widest and tallest dunes of the Netherlands are located on the South side of the Hondsbossche Seawall, just before the town of Schoorl. The most special dune is located in the center of Schoorl: the Klimduin (climbing dune). Its a 51 meters tall mountain of sand! Your children will have a blast on the klimduin (climbing dune) while you enjoy a drink on the terrace at the bottom of the mountain of sand.
